It’s a relatively light episode for news, so Grant and Peter have more time for the Patreon question and the main topic. It turns out they need it. Hospitality is a big, old-school StG topic and the hosts look at it from a number of angles and discuss how it applies in games, in the world around us, and at our gaming tables.

I’ve been blessed throughout my life with a number of people that have been extremely hospitable to my family and me. In the spans of about 4 years growing up I had 6 different periods where family or friends took my family or me in for months at a time to help in several crisis situations. In most of these situations, the only alternative would have been homelessness. They were not always the best living situations, but these people that didn’t have much were still willing to give of what they had.
Just earlier this year, friends of mine invited my wife and me to live with them. They lived in the city we were looking to move to. So, they opened up their home to give us a chance to get settled, find work for my wife, and get into a better financial situation. We just purchased our own house in July. It was an amazing blessing to have that help from them.
Gaming wise, I wouldn’t have gotten into D&D possibly if it wasn’t for a group of older people inviting a twelve year old me to the table to play D&D. They were mostly high school age or older, but welcomed me and showed me the ropes.
Also want to say how much I have enjoyed your podcast. The heresy series has been my favorite. Fascinating topics! I’m trying to stay current on the episodes while knocking out the backlog. Its been great to see how you guys tie your faith in with your hobby. Too many people, myself included mostly, have separated their geeky hobbies from their faith. You guys have also opened my eyes to seeing the great work geeky Christians are doing in the gaming community.
With our new church, my wife and I have started a small group that mixes bible study with board games. We felt that the board gaming aspect would help in building a stronger sense of community within the group that I’ve seen lacking in other small groups. It also helps cater to a group within the church that most other small groups don’t. It’s been wonderful how open our church has been in encouraging us!
Keep up the awesome work guys!
